Design as a Driver of Change

I believe design is more than the creation of products and interfaces. At its best, it helps organisations clarify direction, align teams around shared goals, and turn complex challenges into actionable opportunities.

Innovation rarely succeeds in isolation. Real change happens when product, engineering, design, and business stakeholders work towards a common vision. By building trust, creating alignment, and connecting perspectives across silos, I help organisations move from ideas to outcomes.

Service Thinking Over Product Thinking

All organisations provide a service; products, platforms, and interfaces are simply vehicles for delivering it.

While metrics like clicks, engagement, and conversion are important, they are only proxies for success. My focus is always on the bigger question: are we effectively delivering the value users came for?

Looking at the entire service ecosystem helps teams make better decisions, uncover hidden dependencies, and solve problems at their root.

Just Enough Process

Process should support delivery, not become the delivery.

I have a strong aversion to process theatre—the tendency to prioritise frameworks and ceremonies over meaningful outcomes. Good process creates clarity, removes friction, and enables teams to move with confidence. Beyond that, it becomes overhead.

My goal is always to find the minimum amount of structure required for a team to do its best work.

Tactical Honesty

Trust is built through clarity, not diplomacy alone.

I favour direct, constructive conversations and actively seek out opposing viewpoints. Challenging assumptions early helps teams avoid costly mistakes later, while creating an environment where disagreement can lead to stronger decisions.

The goal is not consensus for its own sake, but confidence that the right conversations have happened.

Architecture Over Pixels

Great experiences are built on strong foundations.

I place significant emphasis on systems, information architecture, workflows, and data models because these are often the root cause of user experience problems. A polished interface cannot compensate for fragmented systems or broken processes.

By focusing on the underlying architecture first, teams can create experiences that are not only usable but resilient and scalable.

How I Lead Teams

Context

I believe in radical transparency.

By sharing information openly and providing visibility into both strategic objectives and organisational realities, I give teams the context they need to make informed decisions. Understanding the "why" behind the work creates alignment, encourages ownership, and reduces unnecessary friction.

Support

My role is to help people do their best work sustainably.

That means removing obstacles, protecting focus, advocating for the team, and creating an environment where individuals can grow without burning out. Strong teams are built through trust, psychological safety, and clear expectations—not pressure alone.

Play

Innovation requires curiosity.

I encourage teams to explore ideas, experiment safely, and challenge conventional thinking. Creating space for discovery, inspiration, and collaboration often leads to solutions that more rigid approaches would never uncover. Play is not the opposite of serious work; it's often where the most valuable insights begin.
